Early edition of the poetry of Annibale Caro (1507-66) and an exact reproduction of the first edition published by the Aldine press in 1569.

The author was better known for his prose; in the prefatory dedication to Alessandro Farnese the poet’s nephew Giovanni Battista Caro explains that the poems were written, for the most part, while Annibale was young.

Provenance: Citation, in eighteenth-century (?) hand, on front free endpaper from G. Baretti, The Italian Library (1757), ‘Caro was elegant in every thing he writ’. Initials ’EC’ on both the front and end paste downs, in brown ink. Further inscriptions on front paste-down.

Discoloration and staining to title page, and a few marginal paper flaws, no loss of text; occasional staining throughout.
