Original manuscript draft, comprising four quarto pages, in blue ink, inscribed on the final leaf: "Laurie Lee, July 1971".
With a number of emendations and corrections. Rust-mark from staple on the corner of the first page, otherwise in excellent order.
"The village of Slad lies in the smallest of Stroud's five Valleys. It is seldom referred to in any Gloucestershire guidebook and rarely appears on any map, and so may still be considered to be one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas in the district..."
Laurie Lee moved to Slad with his family when he was three. The area was immortalised in his book Cider With Rosie.
