Sir Francis Drake.

VAUGHAN Robert (1662.)

£1500.00

Engraving. In fine condition. London, Peter Stent,

The second state of this Vaughan's famous engraving with the English text, is distinguished by the addition of the legend "Sould (sic) by P. Stent" who was active from the 1640s. The laudatory text reads:

The worlds survaied bouds, brave Drake on thee did gaze,

Both North and Southerne Poles have seene thy manly face.

If thanklesse men conceale, thy prayse the starres woulde blaze,

The Sunne his fellow-travellers worth will duely grace.

A. Globe. Peter Stent. 113, see Hind 3.53 (16a).
