The verso reads: "Starting from San Francisco, though the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, across to England, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Turkey, Persia, India, China, Japan, then to San Francisco, supposed to make the trip in 3 1/2 years."

 

If Schwall and Burns did indeed attempt a circumnavigate by foot, it made a remarkable lack of impression on the media. This souvenir is presented as a stand alone item, entirely unsupported by contemporary newspaper reportage, with the protagonists yielding no hits in newspaper archives or the internet.
