Unrestored contemporary calf, the boards with double gilt fillet enclosing a simple blind-stamped roll, the spine in six compartments with raised bands within double fillets, gilt numeral I, lower third of ffep torn away, headcap perished. "Our most scholarly colonial work" (Howes). Seven years in preparation, it was Prince's original intention to bring the history down to 1730. Only a portion (ninety-six pages) of the second volume was published and that not till 1755. The entire work was published in full in 1826.
