A Quaker preacher and missionary, Fothergill (1676-1745) made three trips to America between 1706 and 1737. He travelled primarily along the eastern seaboard, travelling throughout much of New England, visiting Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. His interesting account includes information on the back settlements in these areas and lists the names of families he encountered. cf. Sabin 25270 (first edition).
