Folio. Sewn in brown paper wrappers. Slightly dusty, but very good. Old ink number erased but legible from top margin of recto. [2]pp. Madrid, n.p. June,

A seemingly unique memorial addressed to the King of Spain by the Commissary-General of the Indies, Fr. Julian Chumillas, of the Franciscan Order. Certified on the verso by Fr. Pedro Argenao, the General Secretary of the Order. It concerns a dispute regarding the authority of the Commissary-General and the Prelate-General of the Indies.

The 'Real y Supremo Consejo de las Indias' was an administrative and advisory body established in 1524 by Charles V, designed to oversee lawmaking and to support the absolute power of the Spanish monarchy over their colonial territories in the Americas.
