This long and impassioned letter argues strongly for allowing Catholics into all positions in the Army and Navy. The writer, himself a Protestant, gives a great many examples that attest to the bravery and loyalty to the King of Catholics in the country and states, "Point out one instance of treason and disloyalty in a Catholic, in whom an important trust has been placed. I can call to your recollection thousands of bravery and devotion to their Country's cause."

Written midway through the War with France which lasted from 1803 to 1814, this is a call to prevent religious tensions from preventing the British armed forces expressing their full potency.
