First edition. 8vo. xxiii, [3], 299, [1] pp. Original red pebble-grain cloth, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, covers with blind fillet border, black coated endpapers, edges untrimmed (small contemporary shelfmark label to front pastedown, ownership stamp of 'Roger B. C. Johnson' to front fly leaf and title page, pencilled marginal annotations to the preface, paper stock evenly browned throughout but otherwise generally clean internally; slight lean to text block, minor chipping to tips of spine and corners, some patches of rubbing to joints, a good copy only). A posthumous collection bringing together some of Jevons's major early works on logic, edited by the philosopher Robert Asamson and Harriet Jevons, the author's wife, and including the first appearance in book form of the essay 'J. S. Mill's Philosophy Tested'.

The title essay 'Pure Logic', originally published in 1864, was Jevons's first published work on logic.
