THE DEFINITIVE EDITION

Third edition, revised and enlarged. 8vo. lviii, 600 pp. Contemporary paste paper covered boards, spine lettered in gilt on red paper label, red edges (neat contemporary ownership inscription to front free endpaper, minor spotting to front endpapers, some occasional neat pencilled marginal annotations in an early hand, otherwise generally internally clean; spine heavily rubbed, corners slightly bumped, covers slightly scuffed, still a very good copy overall, unsophisticated in a contemporary binding). Heidelberg, Oswald

The third and final lifetime edition, the definitive version of the text, a revised version of the substantially enlarged second edition of 1818, almost twice as long as the first edition of 1817.

Hegel's Encyclopaedia of the Philosophical Sciences was principally written for use as lectures notes. It is Hegel's most complete exposition of his philosophical system and is divided into sections on logic, the philosophy of nature, and the philosophy of mind.
