tiré de ses Commentaires sur l'Histoire de Polybe pour l'usage d'un Officier de Main de Maître. Eighteen engraved plates and plans on seventeen sheets. Folding sheets slightly misfolded and standing proud at the fore-edge, very light browning, but otherwise a very good copy indeed in contemporary mottled sheep, raised bands to the spine, tulip and other floral devices gilt in the compartments, light tan lettering piece, a little rubbed but still extremely attractive. xvi, 302pp. Par la Compagnie des Libraires, & se vend à Lyon, Chez Jean Marie Bruyzet, Paris,

Superb unsophisticated copy of Folard's commentaries on Polybius, this edition uncommon with no copies recorded on OCLC and five copies only on RLIN, NY Public Library, Harvard, Chicago, Northwestern and Brigham Young.

Large and ornate armorial bookplate of Joseph Ulric Göldlin de Tieffenau to the front pastedown, his name and rank as "Major du Regt. de Jennes" and the date 1763 added in manuscript. A wonderful copy with provenance to a Swiss military family, a near contemporary engraved carte de visite for "L'Avoyer du Mulinen" is loosely inserted.
