Chapman and Hall, 1880 but
SABIB I, p.573. "... under the fictitious guise of a young soldier, the authoress gives an account of six month's life and experiences with Colonel A.W. Durnford who lost his life at Isandhlwana. The writer was evidently an enthusiastic admirer of the gallant soldier." Uncommon, RLIN lists only the California State Library, Northwestern University and New York Public Library copies, COPAC has BL, Cambridge, Bodleian & NLS only.
Daughter of Bishop Colenso of Natal, descriibed by SADNB as a "protagonist of the Zulu people", she completed Durnford's work History of the Zulu War and its Origins, also with the publication date 1880. First series of ads. has issue date of November 1879, which together with the contemporary pencilled ownership inscription of "Nelson Clarke 1879" would seem to confirm the BL dating to that year rather than 1880 as stated on the title page.
