First edition. 8vo., green cloth, gold title panel to upper cover, lettered in green. Wien - Leipzig - Bern, Weidmann & Co, Verlag der Psychotherapeutischen Praxis.

A presentation copy, inscribed in German on the half title page, to a Herr Riedel, sending this book, after a disagreement over the meaning of the word love, conceding that the undersigned love him in the best sense, signed 'Wien 24/XII 1939 Dr.Wilhelm Stekel, Hilde Stekel'.

Stekel was an Austrian doctor and psychologist, and one of Sigmund Freud's earliest followers. In his 'Interpretation of Dreams' Freud gave Stekel credit for his contribution to the study of symbolism in dreams. Stekel was a prolific author and contributor to scientific journals.

Head of spine damp-stained, extremities slightly bumped, the inscription rubbed on the recipient's name.
