Gorer and Edith were friends from Edith's first days of independence, and she maintained a close friendship with both her and her children, who included Richard, an influential horticulturalist: at Edith's suggestion Rachel's portrait was painted by Pavel Tchelitchew. An excellent copy, cloth a little soiled.
