Signed on the half title page 'E.H.Shackleton, 'James Murray.', 'George Marston.'.

In the introduction Shackleton writes 'For the first time an unofficial, and therefore more human document, is presented to the public .. I would advise anyone who wants to get to the kernel of the life of a Polar explorer to read the book'. 

George Marston went twice on expeditions with Shackleton as official artist, Murray, a biologist, was with Shackleton on the Nimrod expedition, where he was put in charge of the base camp. 

Covers bowed, corners and spine rubbed and spotted, lettering on the spine faded.
