Edited by Daniel George and Rose Macaulay. First edition. 8vo., original light blue cloth, dust jacket. London, Collins.

Inscribed from one editor to the other: "Daniel George his book, from his admiring assistant Rose Macaulay. November 1938". Her friendship with Daniel George was long-lasting and deep, founded on old books and "obscure and recondite reading". The book is the most concrete product of a long informal collaboration between them, and is an anthology of anti-war literature - he "did the searching; Rose read, commented on, checked translations and variants, and edited page after page of excerpts." It was a product of the feverish late 1930s and their membership of The International Peace Campaign. By the time of its publication the game had been lost, ("It's like trying to shout above the storm, or stem Niagara with bare hands"), the book was not promoted by Collins and died a death. Today it is uncommon, but unsought-after. [All quotations from Jane Emery's life of Rose Macaulay.] Spine faded, otherwise a very good copy in dust jacket, with some loss at the head and tail of the spine.

A very good copy, spine faded in a foxed and worn dust jacket, with some loss at the head and tail of the spine.
