Translated by T.E. Shaw (Colonel T.E. Lawrence). Title page illustrated with a device by Bruce Rogers. First trade edition, special issue. 8vo., original blue morocco, two double gilt rules on upper cover, blind on lower cover, spine lettered and decorated in gilt. Oxford University Press.

Extremities of binding just worn, a few leaves turned over, and one small paint (? ) stain on upper cover. A fine association copy, inscribed by Basil Liddell Hart to his only son "To Adrian Liddell Hart who knew T.E. from Basil Liddell Hart (Daddy) 24th August 1938".

As O'Brien notes, this first trade edition of The Odyssey comes in a confusing multiplicity of variants, which have so far defeated attempts to conclusively put in order. However it seems likely that the copies issued in morocco (either blue or brown) represent some sort of de-luxe issue, a likelihood which may be reinforced by the ownership of this present copy by an associate of Lawrence. The morocco copies are fairly rare.
