Inscribed by the author: "December 1958, For Brigitte and Bu, with my love and deep affection, Nadine". The recipients may well by Brigitte Schiffer and Oswald Burchard. Gordimer's husband Reinhold took her to Egypt on their honeymoon, and introduced her to the couple. In Ronald Suresh Roberts biography he discloses: "During his wartime adventures in Egypt, Reinhold had recruited Brigitte Schiffer and Oswald Burchard to help him monitor Nazi radio." Gordimer returned only once to Egypt, in 1958. A near fine copy.
