Inscribed by the author to the photographer Fay Godwin, on the front free endpaper: "Lyme, 12 Aug 1985. Dear Fay, the back of jacket reads well - if nothing else! All the best, John". Fowles refers to the rear flap of the dust jacket, which is text-less and features a half-length portrait by Godwin. A fine copy in dust jacket, the red lettering faded on the spine and slightly nicked on the lower spine.
