First edition, first issue. 8vo., original blue cloth, gilt. London, Edward Arnold.

Signed by the author and inscribed to Forster's aunt by his friend: "Rosalie Alford from Joe Ackerley". Ackerley and Forster became close friends after Forster sent him an appreciative letter about his long poem Ghosts. It was Forster who suggested that Ackerley spend five months in India as companion-secretary to the eccentric maharaja of Chhatarpur, which formed the basis for Ackerley's Hindoo Holiday, and Ackerley was the first to be taken into Forster's confidence over his friendship with Rob Buckingham. Rosie Alford, nee Whichelo, who had "tremendous spirit and intelligence" (Beauman) was Forster's favourite aunt. First issue, including 'A Flood in the Office', which was removed after a libel action. An excellent copy, some slight wear to the extremities.
