The rare second state, with A Love Story etched in viny letters on a scroll as part of the vignette titlepage. 

Head and tail caps a little frayed, white mark to front board, otherwise a very good copy. A lengthy ownership inscription to half title, and book plate to paste-down. The Battle of Life was published on 19th December 1846, the inscription dates from the 23rd December 1846, meaning it was purchased only a few short days after publication.
