ONE OF THE MOST SUSTAINED CRITIQUES OF FREUDIAN PSYCHOANALYTIC THEORY EVER UNDERTAKEN

First edition. 8vo (220 x 135mm). 470, [2] pp., frontispiece after Richard Lindner. Original printed wrappers, with a glassine jacket (extremities lightly rubbed, otherwise a near fine copy). Paris, Editions de Minuit, Collection Critique.

The first fruit of the collaboration between the philosopher Gilles Deleuze and the psychotherapist and political theorist Félix Guattari, a cornerstone of post-structuralism and surely one of the most sustained critiques of Freudian psychoanalytic theory ever undertaken. The first volume of Capitalism and Schizophrenia, with a preface by Michel Foucault, Anti-Oedipus centres on the psychoanalytic conception of desire as lack, that is, the object-orientated, possessive desire of Freud, outlining instead a vitalist micropolitics of desire and "desiring-production", what Deleuze & Guattari describe as "schizoanalysis".
