4to. First edition. John Murray. London. In 24 parts numbered I-XIV. Each volume contains five plates, for 120 in total. Engravings after various artists incl. Turner, Stanfield, Cattermole, Westall, Harding

All volumes in very good condition for a fragile work issued in parts, some dust staining to the covers, particularly the first and final volumes, corners slightly chipped, some leaves slightly dog eared and some edges torn, vol. XXIV has a rather large tear to the edge of the title page, the upper cover of vol. I is detached and the spines of both this and the final vol. are worn through. Part II suffers a lot number adhered to the upper cover, and cup rings mark vols. III, VII, X and XV. Some spotting and mild foxing throughout. In a blue cloth box with black leather label lettered in gilt.

Conceived to accompany Thomas Moore's 14 volume Life and Work of Lord Byron the Illustrations were originally planned as a matching 14 volume set, with each containing one portrait and four landscape plates 'executed by those eminent artists, William and Edward Finden, on a scale of beauty and cheapness never before attempted in this country.' The completed set in fact comprises 24 volumes and the proportion of portraits and landscapes varies.
