The US edition precedes this edition by a year. Inscribed on the verso of the frontispiece 'With best wishes Ernest Bevin'. In 1919 David Lloyd George said of Bevin 'He is a powerful fellow, with a bull neck and a huge voice - he is a born leader...if there is trouble, mark my words, you will hear more of Bevin'.'  Here assembled is a collection of speeches and broadcast addresses, many from Bevin's time as wartime Minister of Labour.
