A presentation copy, inscribed on the title page 'To Christina Foyle Dr E Benes'. Beneš gave a speech at one of Miss Foyle's Literary Luncheons in November 1939, at which he was introduced by H.G.Wells, who referred to him as 'a great European Statesman'. The speeches were broadcast by the BBC. Beneš, twice President of Czechoslovakia, appears in Wells' prophetic novel 'The Shape of Things to Come', in which he successfully avoids the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia, and helps to create a new world order. 

Dust jacket lightly soiled, slightly nicked on the top edge.
