Dr. Leon Wieger (1856-1933) was a French Jesuit who lived in China in the early 20th century and published several scholarly works on Sinology, especially linguistics. The present title was first published in French in 1924. The first part is an interesting overview of Chinese History from 1982BC to 1912AD. The second part provides short biographical details for around 4000 noted individuals (headed 'MEN'), while the final Bibliographical index provides details on some 1000 Chinese titles "which it may eventually be useful for a missionary to know". Honingham Hall was the residence of Sir Eric Teichman (1884-1944), a flamboyant British diplomat, explorer, and agent in Central Asia and China.
