This expedition took Lord Amherst's embassy out to China, and then proceeded to explore the then little known Eastern Seas of China and Japan. Capt. Hall had an interview at St. Helena with Napoleon, who had known his father, Sir James Hall, when a boy at school at Brienne, and describes this meeting in some of the later editions of the book.
