The Manner in which Shops are distinguished by their Sign's. The fine River and Pleasant Town of Joesiwoe in China with a Rice Plantation. A very rare and complete set of optical views of China listed in Robert Sayer's 'New and Enlarged Catalogue for the Year M.DCC.LXVI of useful and Correct Maps, Scarce and Valuable Prints in Sets... (London, 1766) as lot no. 24: "Chinese Cities, Villages, Streets, Triumphal Arches, and Romantic Prospects, designed from the originals done in China, by Mr. Heckel and neatly engraved by J. Couse." Augustin Heckel (1690-1770) was a painter, engraver and draughtsman. Born in Augsburg, he came to London as a young man. He died in Richmond on August 20th, 1770.
