Audsley (1838-1925) was the first western scholar to attempt a classification of Japanese pottery and and it is still regarded as an authorative reference work. The main focus is on the popular Hizen and Satsuma ware. A 2 vol.-folio edition was printed in London in 1875-77. The fine chromo-lithograph plates were printed by Firmin-Didot of Paris.
