The Ashiya Camera Club was founded in April 1930 in Kobe. Founding members include Hanaya Kambei, Nakayama Iwata, Benitani Kichinosuke, and Korai Seiji. The influential amateur club became a major force in progressive Kansai photography, promoting both shinko shashin as well as avant-garde trends (zen'ei shashin). In 1935 the club's annual Tokyo exhibition was replaced with the Ashiya Shashin Salon, inviting nationwide contributions from a wide range of photographic trends. The present exhibition catalogue contains work by Nojima Yasuzo, Hanaya Kambei, Hori Fusao, Kuwahara Kineo, Kimura Ihei, Nakayama Iwata, and others. The images are carefully paired and the quality of the reproductions are high. Very rare. No copy in OCLC.
