A tremendous image, the poet's lowering forehead reminiscent of Ben Bulben. This print, in an old frame, is from the poet's own household, one of two sold in the final sales from the family, conducted in 2017. MacDonald was a successful New York portrait photographer, who worked in a fairly conventional pictorialist mode, but with great skill. The print is in fine condition, but for a line of oxidisation reaching up from the bottom left corner, probably relating to an old glass crack.
