550 leaves from original issues of Punch, listed, and presented in three filing boxes. London, November 2 1910, to February 5 1941.

The Michael Freyer collection of Jack Yeats' "W. Bird" contributions to the London humorous magazine Punch. Very nearly a complete collection, it was formed by Michael Freyer, bookseller at the Brown Jacket bookshop in Dublin, close friend of Jack and one time manager of the Guinness owned Zetland Hotel in Cashel.

After one isolated contribution in 1896, Jack worked for Punch throughout his life continuously from 1910 to 1941, under the pseudonym W. Bird. He never spoke of the work, which continued in his early, rather conventional style with little of what we recognise as his mature hand. Using Hilary Pyle's The Different Worlds of Jack B. Yeats as the arbiter, it seems that 27 contributions are lacking, 21 of which are in the entirely absent year of 1918.
