Their history, people, commerce, industries, and resources. First edition. Numerous illustrations and photographic plates. Folio. Decorated publisher's full red calf, a close to fine copy. a.e.g. 848pp. London, Lloyds Greater Britain Publishing Co.,

This work provides a comprehensive survey of Hong Kong and the treaty ports in China. Published by Lloyds, much emphasis is put on commercial activities, giving short individual biographies of both the European and the Chinese business community and introductions to their enterprises. With separate chapters on the fire-brigades, sports, tele- and postal communications, hospitals, the tea and silk industry etc. Together with an index and a wealth of photographic illustrations documenting the exterior and interior of individual premises/companies the work is a very useful reference-book of Western commercial activities in China at the turn of the century. Due to the weight of the book it is rarely found in good condition.
