Illustrated account of the elevation of Nikolai Kasatkin (1836-1912) to the position of Archbishop of all Japan by the Russian Orthodox Synod. The colour frontispiece shows a palitza which is worn by bishops in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Kasatkin was instrumental in collecting funds for the famous Nikolai cathedral in Tokyo which was inaugurated in 1891. It includes an account of the vestments, the ceremony, as well as statements and letters by well-wishers. Extremely rare. No copy in OCLC.
