The Western Hills are located about 30km to the northwest of Peking. The Yiheyuan Summer Palace is about halfway there and the traditionally this area was dotted with garrisons for the training of banner troops. Also located in the hills are the ‘Great Eight Sites’ (Badachu) a group of eight Buddhist monasteries. The present portfolio consists of the booklet detailing 25 excursions from 1 to 10 days as well as the routes and distances. It also includes 2 small maps "General map showing relation of Western Hills to railway lines & Peking“ and ”Map of Patachu and adjacent temples“. The author states that in compiling this guide he was much indebted to Bouillard’s ”Les Temples dans les Environs de Pekin".
