Historical and descriptive guide which is divided into three parts: The Peking of Old, temples, the Peking of Today. This volume brings together some of the best illustrators of Shanghai. Malval lived in China for 15 years, mainly in Shanghai. Sapajou was the assumed name of the Russian emigré Georgii Avksentievich Sapojnikoff (died 1949). Maurice Fabre was an officer with the French Imperial Infantry who had been sent to Tientsin in the wake of the Boxer Rebellion. Many of the photographs were supplied by the German photo-studio Hartung.
