SELLING TEA FROM AROUND THE WORLD

Professionally preserved and mounted in a stiff board frame. Frame 640 x 410mm (approx), average size of each card 90 x 65mm.

The cards not only represent a number of London firms - J.Ward & Co of Fish Street, J. Page of Mile End and V. Wortley of Dorset Square - but also businesses from around the country such as William Ford of Huddersfield, John Gray of Gosport, S. Gulliver of Banbury and James Brooks of Salford.

The cards are illustrated with various imagery associated with the trade such as wooden tea chests, stereotypical Chinese men, pagodas and foreign scenes. A number of the cards also show the ships used to transport the tea back to Britain.

Although tea is clearly marked as the main product the cards also advertise fruit, spices, cheese, coffee, tobacco and wax.
