First Edition. 8vo. 1f, 384, [2] pp. Rebound in the early 20th-century in light-blue boards with a cream paper spine in imitation of the original boards; uncut.London: for W. Strahan; and T. Cadell,

With the final (12-line errara leaf). One of 2000 copies printed of the first edition. First and last few leaves lightly foxed/spotted; a few spots and areas of light browning in the text.

With a pencil note by K. G. Maggs on the flyleaf "Cleverly rebound in old style boards". It is indeed so clever that one could easily say they were the original boards with a new paper spine.

Leaves D8 and U4 are cancels as usual. Leaf *U4v is misnumbered 226 for 296. Leaf U3 has been torn across the upper corner and repaired with slight damage to the end of the first three lines. Fleeman 75.1J/1a. Courtney & Nichol Smith, p.122. Chapman & Hazen, p.151. Rothschild 1256. Bookplate of Jesse Boot, 1st Baron Trent of Nottingham (1850-1931), founder of the eponymous chain of high-street chemists.
