Second edition, first published by Blado in 1540. Donato Giannotti (1492-1573) was a Florentine political official, writer and theorist. He continued the Machiavellian tradition of Florentine political thought and also raised the matter of constitutional reform. "His study of Venice, utilized by James Harrington in Oceana some years later (1656), was an influential interpretation in dialogue form of the Venetian government as a mixed state, recalling the theories of Aristotle and Polybius" (Macmillan Dictionary of Italian Literature).Early inscription on title-page.
