A handsomely bound edition of the collected works of Louis de Blois (1508-1568), the Flemish mystical writer and monastic reformer; he was born of an illustrious family to which several crowned heads were allied and he was educated with the future Emperor Charles V, who remained his staunch friend. His collected works first appeared in Louvain in 1568, with reprints in Cologne in 1572, 1587 and here in 1589. The author's best works are Institutio Spiritualis, Consolatio Pusillanimium, (Comfort for the faint-hearted), Sacellum animae fidei (Sanctuary for the faithful), and particularly Speculum Monachorum.Four-line ownership on title-page dated 1598.
