Autograph Letter Signed ("W. P. Frith") to the playwright Augustus W. Dubourg. 2 pages 8vo with integral blank leaf, Ashenhurst, 7 Sydenham Rise, 2 April 1892.

An enthusiastic response to having received, read and enjoyed Dubourg's play Angelica: Romantic Drama in Four Acts, published in 1892. "I have to thank you very much for sending me your play & a great deal more for the pleasure I have had in reading it. The subject, particularly interesting to an artist, & - I should fancy to the public generally [. . .] - is an admirable one & you appear to me to have fully entered with the spirit of it with a result that should surely result in a great success upon the stage? I conclude that there are managers in London capable of seeing the highly dramatic character of the scenes in your piece & their eminent adaptability to the stage. I hope there is one at any rate & that I shall be able to see Angelica well acted". Angelica is based on the life of Angelica Kauffman and its characters include Reynolds and Bartolozzi. The published play was dedicated to Louise Jopling "a sister artist", the first woman to be admitted to the Royal Society of British Artists (1901).Small tear at the base of the letter along the fold, not affecting the text.
