Autograph Letter Signed ("Robert Hichens") to "Dear Madam", explaining why he must decline to lecture.

1 page 8vo with integral blank leaf, Meadowside, Tankerton-on-Sea, 25 November 1914.

"I feel honoured by yr request, but am very sorry I cannot do what you wish. I never lecture, as I have unfortunately a weak throat, I get hoarse directly if I have to exert my voice. For this reason when I was in America I was advised to refuse all invitations to give lectures. Many thanks for your kind words".

Robert Hichens met Oscar Wilde and Lord Alfred Douglas in 1893 while travelling in Egypt. He became fascinated by the idea of the aesthete and subsequently wrote The Green Carnation (1894).
