First separate edition. Tall 8vo. 16 pp., frontispiece portrait of Alfred North Whitehead. Original printed wrappers, stitched as issued (corners ever so slightly creased, inked ownership inscription to inside front wrapper, otherwise a near fine copy). From the Proceedings of the British Academy. Volume XXXIII. London, Geoffrey Cumberlege.

An endearingly personal intellectual biography of Whitehead by the British philosopher Dorothy Emmet (1904-2000). "From 1928 to 1930 Emmet studied at Radcliffe College, the women's college at Harvard, supported by a Commonwealth scholarship. There she worked with A. N. Whitehead, co-author with Bertrand Russell of Principia Mathematica (1910–13), and became a leading expositor of his work with the publication of Whitehead's Philosophy of Organism (1932)" (ODNB).
