Edited by Patience Gray. With eleven engravings by Nicole [Fenosa]. One of 150 copies for sale of a total edition of 165, signed by the editor and artist. Unbound sheets in original chemise and slipcase. Paris, "Printed at the expense of a friend, and obtainable from Lucien Scheler".
A beautiful production. Davis, legendary bookseller and publisher of Norman Douglas, D.H. Lawrence and others, was as famous a host and chef as he was a bookman. The text (the "impossibility" of the recipes is a reference to availability of ingredients) was assembled and finished after his death by his friend and fellow food writer Patience Gray, and the very fine engravings are by the wife of sculptor Apel-Les Fenosa, with whom he would often stay in Catalonia. It has recently been re-issued in a trade edition.Slipcase slightly worn, otherwise a fine copy.
