Tinted lithograph. 220 by 136mm. Mounted. Liverpool, C. Hutchins, c.1845 - 1850
One of a series of seven, which Ferguson suggests date from 1833, however since the artist is given as "Captn. Hext, 4th the King's own Regiment" they must have been printed between 1845 and 1850 when Hext held that rank in the 4th Foot, before being transferred to the 8th Regiment prior to 1852.
The original drawings for this series of lithographs were most likely executed in Australia in 1831-32 when the 4th Foot was stationed in Australia. However, their publication was unlikely to have been undertaken as a commercial venture and the prints were probably meant for circulation within the artist's own circle of family and friends.
