The diocese of Poona originally comprised Poona, Ahmednagar, Nasik, Kansdeish, Sholapur, Bijapur, Satara, Dharwar, a portion of Belgaum, and the Native States of Kolhapur, Miraj, Sangli, and others. In 1854, it was split into Poona and Bombay, and the German Jesuits assumed control of Poona.
