The first use of Linotype Estienne in Britain and a successful one.

The Aquila Press was set up by James Cleugh, the translator of this publication, Frederick Hallis and Alex Keiller and was "established with the principal object of producing literary works of high merit not otherwise easily accessible". It was a short-lived press but did go some way to achieving its aim.
