The book is in three parts, the first on fruit trees, the second on the growing of soft fruits and vegetables and the third on the preserving and cooking of fruits as well as how to make marzipan and macaroons.
The dedication "Epistre aux Dames" is signed "R.D.C.D.VV.B.D.N" which in reverse spells the name and occupation of the anonymous author "Nicolas De Bonnefons, Valet de Chambre de Roi".
The first edition was printed in Paris in 1651.
