The Little Red SchoolBook.
HANSEN, (Soren); JENSEN (Jesper)
Third edition, first English language edition. 12mo., title page, pp-3-208, publishers recommended list on last page, trans. by Berit Thornberry, in the original stiff red laminated card wrappers lettered in white. London, Stage 1. 1971
Faded wrappers, browned paper edges. A communist book in form and content this key text of the permissive society was modeled on Mao`s Selected Quotations and promotes pupil power, a marxisant analysis of classroom relations and some advice on sex and drugs. In effect, parts of it re-appeared in an anarchistic form redressed in black and white, in Crass`s Existencil Press publication Token Tantrums. The Schoolbook [and the Oz Schoolkids issue] quickly became the targets of Detective Chief Inspector George Fenwick`s dirty squad and many of the little red manuals of progressive living were destroyed after a raid on the publisher. Ironically, D.C.I. Fenwick was sentenced to a decade in prison a handful of years later for taking bribes off of Soho porn barons.
