Published nine days after the first American edition. The final 32-page Methuen catalogue here is dated March 1911. "'The Sacred Fount' sold poorly - the poorest sale of all the James titles published by Methuen. In 1911, apparently encouraged by the success of 'The Outcry', which went into four printings, the firm bound a quantity of remaining sheets of the earlier novel. This would explain inclusion in certain copies of a catalogue dated as late as March or August 1911" (Edel, Laurence & Rambeau A55).
